Tenure track position _ Research Chair with industrial partnershipsPatnership-based Junior Chair

Context

In the framework of the E2S UPPA project, the Landes Department Council and the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) have decided to join forces to set up a junior chair focused on the development of wood and the quality of wood composites, in association with the valorisation of wastes from agro industries.

Research activities on wood and eco materials have been initiated in 2003 in Mont de Marsan.
The permanent team is composed by two teacher-researchers working at the Material Science Department (one full professor and one associate professor), who are also members of the Institute of Analytical Sciences and Physico-Chemistry for Environment and Materials (IPREM).
Research activities are mainly focused on the enhancement of new renewable resins for wood industries (used as glue or varnish for example) and also on recycling bio resources.

Team skills are oriented on analytical chemistry, physic and biological properties measurement of raw materials (wood, natural fibers, phenolic and terpenic extractives etc..) and also transformed materials by various processes such as thermo pressure.

Products developed in the laboratory are mainly focused on furniture and building markets.
Research is applied, linked with industrial needs and also often organized in collaborative networks.


Partners

The team works with industrial partners and particularly with Holiste, Gascogne wood, Ets Labadie and FP Bois.

Research in Mont de Marsan is supported by territorial communities and more particularly by the Landes Department which helps our laboratory since around fifteen years. This partnership is successful as evidenced by various national (Equipex, ADEME, FUI, AMI) and international projects (PHC) for an approximate total amount of 2 millions euros.

The national network Xylomat has been created in 2010 and is managed by Pr Bertrand Charrier. A new laboratory (800 m2) will be built close to the University site in Mont de Marsan, in 2020. This new place will permit to further develop research and technological transfer activities with wood and agro regional industries.
The research project will be linked with circular economy and technology transfer with industrial partnerships members of the group of public interest (GIP) Agrolandes.

A new Master degree focused on the valorisation of bio resources, with a strong emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship, will also be created.

 

Working conditions

This project is linked with one favourable economic activity.
Wood, agro and green chemistry industries employ around 11000 peoples in the Landes Department.
Since the last 10 years, these sectors have known a global progress of 20% in their achieved turnover .

Length: tenure track position of a period of 5 years
The selected candidate must have a proven experience in scientific research and will be recruited for a period of 5 years with a status of teacher-researcher (i.e. Lecturer)

Salary: 28 200 euros net/year (tax home pay)
during three years, and a possible increase during the last two years.

Targeted profile

The candidate must have a doctorate diploma and around 3 years of post-doctoral research experience with a good level of scientific publications.

He/She will have to enhance original development of industrial biomass valorisation while working in the scientific environment of the IPREM - both in Mont de Marsan and Pau - where he/she will have to develop management, adaptability and communication skills, and demonstrate good team work.

Along with this tenure track position, a PhD position - specialized in applied chemistry with good knowledge of physics and process engineering - will also be opened and should strengthen the existing team.
