Tenure track position _ Junior Chair position - Numerical Urban Mock-upPatnership-based Junior Chair

Context

As part of the E2S UPPA project, the Community of Agglomerations of the Basque Country and the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA) decided to strengthen the "Architecture and Urban Physics" chair (ISA BTP, Anglet, holder: Prof. Benoit Beckers) by associating a junior chair.

The “Architecture and Urban Physics” chair is developing research on energy flows (heat, light and acoustics) in urban environments, at all scales, from construction materials to the whole city in its territory, through the arrangement of a façade, a street or a neighborhood.

It focuses more specifically on the definition of a digital model validated by experimental devices and in situ measurements, with an emphasis on the development and management of complex and detailed geometric scenes made possible by advances in numerical geometry (mesh and procedural methods).

Research project

This chair studies the relevance of the different degrees of physical modeling for analysis and design assistance with criteria of energy sobriety, integration of renewable energies, comfort of the habitat, urban atmospheres, advocating multi-physical and multiscale studies that quantify and compare new ideas related to networks (smart grid), urban planning (sustainable city), bioclimatic architecture and the various resources of civil engineering.

Working conditions

Localisation address: Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, campus of Anglet, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France

Starting date: September 2020 - or as otherwise agreed

Length: tenure track position of a period of 5 years
The selected candidate must have a proven experience in scientific research and will be recruited for a period of 5 years with a status of teacher-researcher (i.e. Lecturer)

Employer: Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA)

Missions and duties

The wanted profile will participate in the definition of an urban digital model, in the qualification of its input data (telemetry, meteorology, services, etc.) and in its experimental validation.
This activity includes geometric, physical and mathematical modeling at the scale of the building and the district, which involves mastering the aspects of digital modeling, data management and user interface.

A 5-year tenure track position is proposed to carry out this project.
The start-up package to support this junior chair consists in PhD candidates and associated running costs.

This position will include the follow-up of the said theses during the period and will be in the center of a multidisciplinary team.

Teaching would be limited to 64 hrs (academic duty) per year.

Targeted profile and requirements

Candidates will have a minimum of postdoctoral research experience with good quality scientific output.

Importance will also be given to personal skills. In this case, we place particular weight on the ability to work as part of a team and a positive attitude towards mobility. The applicant will be responsible for a part of a larger project, and the ability to work independently and to take responsibility will be required as well as project management. You should be self-motivated, have reached scientific maturity, naturally identify ambitious goals for your research and possess a strong internal motivation to achieve these. You are not afraid to learn new techniques and methods and freely share your own new insights.
