Tenure track position _ Research Chair with industrial partnerships

Scientific framework

In the framework of the E2S UPPA project, CANOE, ARKEMA and UPPA have decided to join forces to set up a partnership chair around new generation composite materials and more specifically focused on thermoplastic matrix composites.

An active collaboration already associates these 3 actors in the development of innovative technologies and materials and especially in the field of nanostructured and photopolymerizable systems. Arkema commercializes reactive and nano-structured materials through its Blocbuilder and Flexibloc technologies. CANOE brings together many semi-industrial tools on a technological platform based both on the campus of the University of Pau and on the Lacq industrial area next to the Arkema research center. The IPREM laboratory has been working for many years on the materials and technologies developed by Arkema and CANOE to bring understanding and develop fundamental knowledge on physico-chemistry and chemistry of such systems. The activities concerned by this chair will aim to drive the research and development actions that relate to the next generation materials to be implemented to meet the challenges of the energy transition.

In the direct continuation of last major development projects in wind power, photovoltaics and automotive, a major topical development axis concerns biosourced carbon fibers (semi-industrial pilot set up on the platform) and the setup of continuous impregnation lines with thermoplastic matrices. The junior chair will have among its objectives to continue these developments by bringing a physicochemical understanding of the materials and their assembly but also to participate actively in the startup of a development activity of gas storage tanks, in particular hydrogen based on the technologies mentioned above, but also on a couple process / acrylic material, CANOE having a poly-articulated robot for manufacturing tanks or tubes.

The purpose of the partnership chair is therefore to improve the processes and materials used with regard to the targeted improvement of the mechanical properties of the final part.

Missions - principal activities

The candidate will be entrusted with the supervision of 1 PhD thesis and 5 post-doc during the period and will be at the center of a consortium of experts from the field installed at CANOE, ARKEMA and IPREM. Relational and managerial qualities will therefore be particularly important in the assessment of candidates.


Required skills and competences

The desired profile is a mechanic with strong skills in the field of the implementation of composite materials and knowing thermoplastic polymer materials. After having obtained a PhD thesis in this field, the candidates will put forward an industrial or academic experience (post-doc) with a good quality scientific production.
