Campus life

Campus life is rich at UPPA. The university benefits from high-quality sports and cultural equipment, where students and professionals can enjoy a wide range of activities.

The cultural department of the university proposes a rich and eclectic program of cultural events, promoting contemporary and international aesthetics. On the Pau campus, these events take place in “La Centrifugeuse”, a performance hall located in the heart of the campus. On the Basque Coast, “Le Microscope” develops its programming in several Bayonne, Anglet and Biarritz.

Students can also practise various artistic activities, such as theatre, cinema, chorales, improvisation, and dance, under the supervision of professional artists.

UPPA is involved in the popularization of science towards the general public, through the organization of conferences, debates, workshops, and participation in science fairs.

On the Pau campus, “Thursday at last” is organized every Thursday afternoon. Free cultural and sports activities are organized: cinema, conferences, debates, journalism workshops … are open to everyone.

Students and professionals working at UPPA have the opportunity to practise a wide range of sports activities. Next to classic sports such as football, swimming or athletics, sports at UPPA take advantage of the exceptional environment of the region to propose activities in a natural environment: skiing, surfing, hiking, and river sports. UPPA also has several sports centers. The Pau center comprises a beautiful, internal climbing wall that is renowned at a national and even international level.

Sports at the university can be practised at all levels, ranging from initiation to competition. Our elite sportsmen and sportswomen regularly distinguish themselves in national and European competitions: in 2016 for example, we were French champions in team sabre, we won the French cup of pelota by team, we obtained an individual title in bodyboard and bronze medals in feminine handball, feminine basketball, and men’s rugby sevens.
