International doctoral mobility grants - 2019ES2-launches its second call for all PhD candidates registred at one of our two Doctoral Schools (ED 211 or ED 481) willing to work during their thesis with a foreign research laboratory 


The E2S UPPA consortium ( -gathering UPPA-INRA-INRIA- as well as the “Natural Sciences and Applications” and the “Social Sciences and Humanities” doctoral schools, invites candidates to apply for international doctoral mobility grants of excellence.

With this funding scheme, E2S UPPA wishes to enhance the international mobility of the doctoral candidates and to foster links with international partner laboratories. Laureates will receive a financial support to cover part of their stay (at least three months) in laboratories abroad. If this scientific collaboration concerns a European laboratory, the laureate would be proposed a PhD with the European label.



Applications are expected from highly motivated candidates, able to undertake collaborative and international research project, developed by the candidate and his/her thesis supervisor. This international dimension and openness will provide considerable added value, not only to the PhD candidate, but also to the PhD supervisor, the host laboratory and the University. Priorities will be given to colaborations between E2S UPPA and the universities targeted in the international road map of the consortium (cf. List hereafter).


Fundings for PhD:

International doctoral mobility grants are offered on the basis of 4500 €. 
Duration: 3 months minimum




  • Candidates must be registered either in the “Natural Sciences and Applications” (ED 211) or in the “Social Sciences and Humanities” (ED 481) doctoral schools, at Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year, and benefit from dedicated funding for doctoral research (funded theses only).
  • Applicants are expected to show outstanding involvement in their research project. Therefore, expectations and the development of doctoral research in partnership with the foreign laboratory should be clearly presented. 


Candidates will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Candidate’s motivation, scientific maturity and curiosity
  • Adequacy between the research project and its international development
  • Ability to work independently and to take responsibility for the progress and the quality of the project
  • International road map of E2S UPPA

Application period: from October 23rd, 2018, to January 10th, 2019.

Required application documents:

  • Research project: 1-3 pages where you present your scientific project and achievements, with an emphasis on your future goals and research focus on international collaboration.
  • Curriculum vitae and motivation letter
  • Copies of certificates of French and/or English languages proficiency (for non French or English speaking applicants)
  • Letter of recommendation from PhD supervisor.
  • Letter of invitation from the partner laboratory.
