Deep Geothermy

A world first deep geothermic pilot (6000m) to be implemented in Pau in 2019.

It is estimated that, by 2020, global electrical energy production from deep geothermic methods will be reach 9000 MW, with 800 MW produced in Europe.

This pilot program, named named FONGEOSEC, will produce 5.5 MW in electricity and 18 MW in heat. The project will represent an investment of about 80 M€, and will create 500 direct jobs.

Research studies in consortium laboratories along with the SME FONROCHE have confirmed the potential of this project: characterization and integrity of geological reservoirs, injectivity and integrity of wells, impact of storage on aquifers, tools for short and long-term monitoring, ability to measure the environmental and legal issues and impacts. E2S and FONROCHE will thus become main actors in the domain for research, innovation, training and production.
